Vanuatu is intense and fascinating. It has a dramatic history, stories of cannibalism (you can find skulls as you hike, we did!), World War II relics scattered across islands, old aircraft and shipwrecks, dense forests and powerful volcanoes.

The landscapes feel alive. The ocean is full of incredible marine life and the jungle feels thick and mysterious.

The humid heat of the “hot season” in Vanuatu makes you appreciate the little things, especially clothing that lets you move, breathe and stay comfortable all day long. When your days are packed, feeling good in what you wear becomes part of how you show up with confidence.

Those were the longest and hottest days of my life 😂💙

Travelling there feels a bit like stepping into a video game. You feel a little bit like Lara Croft exploring somewhere wild.

It was our first real immersion into Melanesia after nearly a decade exploring Polynesia, and we packed the trip with 110 activities across 36 days, even experiencing our first Pacific cyclone along the way.

Discovery Time!

If Polynesia feels like a perfect tropical postcard with white sand beaches and lagoons, Melanesia feels more volcanic and wild.

Think black sand beaches, dense jungle, dramatic coastlines and active landscapes.

One thing that stands out is the food. Some places blend French cuisine with local island ingredients in a genuinely special way. That flavour combination feels very unique to Vanuatu.

If I explained it to a friend, I would say Polynesia is calm paradise while Melanesia is exciting nature.

Plan one or two activities per day and give yourself time to absorb the place.

There are still beautiful white sand beaches, but the overall feeling is more adventurous and untamed.

Vanuatu has some wonderfully local guesthouses – authentic and full of character. But after a 14-hour day of active exploring, nothing compares to sinking into a truly luxurious room for the night. In Vanuatu, we experienced some truly indulgent stays that made us feel like a princess and a prince for the evening.

Rugged, powerful and endlessly inspiring, Vanuatu left us completely in awe.
